November 2nd - League Win

Bryncethin thoroughly deserved this big win at high flying Llanrumney and the bonus point that they secured moves them up the table.

Hooker Rhys James opened the scoring with a try for Bryncethin but the home side replied almost immediatly with a try of their own following a mix up at the lineout. Gavin Parsons added a further three points to enable Bryncethin to take a 8 - 5 lead and that's how the score remained until the interval.

With the advantage of the wind  Bryncethin started the second half positively and outside half Gareth Pearce gathered a loose clearance kick to drop a superb 40 yard drop goal to increase the lead to six points. By now the Bryncethin eight were dominant in scrum and lineout and it was no suprise when flanker and skipper Andrew Bayliss crossed for a try wide out.  A further try followed from man of the match Neil Hopkins following a set lineout move and the final try was scored by Mike Richards after some excellent passing by the Bryncethin backs.

There were good performances from prop Steve Lewis, second rows David Bayliss and Peter Puaca and wing Russel Johns.  Bryncethin travel to Cefn Cribbwr for a friendly on the evening of Friday 7th November

October 28th - Brewers cup win..

Bryncethin moved into the 3rd round of the Worthington Welsh Districts Cup with this win over Potypridd side Glyncoch.

David Bayliss opened the scoring in the first couple of minutes charghing down a kick to cross for a try and although he missed the conversion Gavin Parsons made ammends when he kicked a penalty shortly after to open up a 8 point lead.

Glyncoch responded with a try of their own before Bryncethin restored their 8 point lead with a try from Mike Richards following some excellent rugby. There were another three penalties from Parsons and two tries from the visitors to leave the final score at 22 - 15.

The home pack again dominated in the set pieces and there were good performances from half backs  Andrew Veasy and Gareth Pearce and it was good to see last seasons top points scorer Lloyd Jenkins returning for his first game of the season.

Next week Bryncethin face a tough test at high flying  Llanrumney and will be keen to come back from Cardiff with some league pointd before the Autumn break for the internationals.  Bryncethin have drawn Ynysowen home in the next round the brewers cup

October 20th - Away Day Loss..

Bryncethin started confidently against the league leaders and for the first 20 minutes had the upper hand in terms of possession and territory however an interception try from inside their opponents half knocked them back. The try gave Clwb Rygbi some confidence and they scored another converted try to leave them 14  -  0 in the lead at half time.

The second half started with the home side the strongest and following what appeared to be a backrow defensive mix up the home wing forward strode over unopposed for a converted try.

The try seemed to spur Bryncethin into action and shortly after they scored a try of their own when wing Mike Richards crossed wide out but Gavin Parsons made the conversion look easy as he added the two extra points.Tere followed 10 minutes of non stop action as Bryncethin threw everything at the home line but it was not to be they came away from Cardiff without a point.

There were good performances from the pack who dominated the set pieces all afternoon with skipper Andrew Bayliss being well supported by brother David fellow backrow players Mark Thomas and Paul Evans with scrum half Andrew Veasy using his considerable experience to good effect.

Next week Bryncethin entertain Pontypridd side Glyncoch in the second round of the Worthington cup and although they defeated them in the league last week they will know that they are in for another tough match.
